A recent survey released by the Pew Internet & American Life
Project reveals that more than half of the American adults play
computer games and one in five play every day. The survey of 2,054 US
adults shows that while younger adults are far more likely to play
than older people, computer games are clearly the main way people
choose to entertain themselves these days. More than 81% of the
respondents between 18 and 20 said they play games, compared with 23%
of people aged 65 and older. However, it's pretty clear that
teenagers are the main computer games consumers, as more than 97% of
them play games.
Furthermore,
it's not only adult men who play computer games, it's women too, as
half of them play on the computer. The study also shows that
computer games are played by people who have a college education more
than those who don't. The data shows that 57% of the people who went
to at least some college are gamers, compared with 51% of high school
graduates and just 40% of people having less than a high school
education.
Anyway,
it's interesting to see that adults with children who play games
choose the computer as well. 66% of the parents or guardians of
children under 17 play video games, but only 31% of the parents with
teenagers play video games with their kids. As previously mentioned,
if people don't have kids, they are less likely to play video games.
Furthermore, while teens tend to play games on consoles, adults opt
for PCs to do that. 61% of the respondents 18 to 29 years old play
games on PCs compared to 28% who play on consoles. Computer games are
still by far the dominant way of playing among adults.
