Hackers are as active as ever these days, and not even vice
presidential candidate Sarah Palin was able to prevent them from accessing her
e-mail account. The group of hackers, referred to as anonymous, posted a series
of screenshots on the Web of Palin’s inbox messages, address book and family
photos.
John McCain’s campaign manager released a statement calling
it “a shocking invasion of the Governor’s privacy and a violation of the law.” Furthermore,
he said the matter had been turned over to the authorities, expressing their hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them.
The hackers posted links of Palin’s compromised account on
Wikileaks.org, and their action came at a time when Palin is under scrutiny for
allegedly using her personal e-mail address for official business. While personal
e-mails can be deleted at all times, official messages are required to be
archived by law.
According to the Washington Post, Andree McLeod, an activist
who filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the disclosure of another
Yahoo e-mail account used by Palin, said: “if this woman is so careless as to
conduct state business on a private e-mail account that has been hacked into,
what in the world is she going to do when she has access to information that is
vital to our national security interests?”
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been under serious criticism
lately, after presidential candidate John McCain announced her as running mate
for vice president, not only for personal reasons related to her daughter’s
pregnancy, but also for firing safety public commissioner Walter Monegan for personal reasons.
