For this week’s Consumer Electronics Show, HTC announced the presentation of its new Windows Mobile Phone, the HTC S743.
The device can only be referred to as new for the US market, as it is already available in other regions.
The S743 borrowed some of the design features from the company’s Touch Diamond, but the final product came out with its own distinctive and complex features. It has an ultra-slim case which measures 4.6 by 1.7 by 0.6 inches and weighs 4.9 ounces. It features a 12 key number pad and a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. The device also has a 3.2 megapixel camera in addition to the VGA camera used for video calls, a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, and Bluetooth compatibility.
According to the company’s estimates, the phone’s 1000 mAh rechargeable battery should be good for 320 minutes of talk time on a 3G connection or for 400 hours of stand-by time; on a regular GSM connection, talk time is expected to be of 380 minutes and stand-by time will be of 280 hours.
Even though it has several good features and looks very appealing, the price might scare off many gadget enthusiasts. HTC announced that the device will work on any US GSM network, as it will not be tied to any specific carrier. It might sound like a good thing, but this means that the S743 will not have a subsidized carrier price. The costs will be set by the retailers and the company estimates that the device, which should be available later this quarter, will be bought at a price between $600 and $700.
