HTC Presents Its New Mobile Devices

HTC chose the Mobile World Congress to present its new devices, the Touch Pro 2 and the Diamond 2. The two handsets will run on Windows Mobile 6 and will be upgradable to the 6.5 version.

"Today we try to fit our life into silos of applications," said John Wang, HTC's chief marketing officer, in the press conference, while presenting the devices. "We have an address book application, a calendar application, a phone application ... since when did our lives become applications?"

The Pro 2 features a 3.6-inch widescreen VGA display and a large QWERTY keyboard, which will be greatly appreciated by heavy e-mail users. There is also a new feature called Straight Talk which integrates email, voice and speakerphone and was designed to allow users to easily switch from email to conference calls. The device is scheduled for release in all major global markets this summer.

The Diamond 2 has a 3.2-inch VGA 800 x 480 touchscreen display and the company used a touch-sensitive zoom bar in order to ensure fast webpage, email, and photo zooming. The device has a 5-megapixel camera, an ambient light sensor, a gravity sensor and a MicroSD memory card slot to expand the memory up to 16 Giga Bytes. It runs a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor and has 288 Mbytes of RAM. According to the presentation, the battery life is 50 percent better than the original’s. The Diamond 2 is scheduled for release in Europe and Asia over the next few months and in other markets later this year.
