HP announced the release of its new free application called iPrint Photo, which is already available on Apple’s App Store. The new service allows customers to easily print their photos whenever there is a wireless connection and a printer available.
"We were able to develop a proof of concept photo printing application in a few weeks and finished up in early December," explained Darrell Walker, a software development engineer in HP’s Mac group, during an interview with Internet News.com, adding that the idea to develop such an app for the iPhone was first forwarded in September.
He concluded by saying that many mobile users forget about printing, and one of the company’s goals is to turn printing into a relevant aspect in the mobile space.
The application allows wireless printing of 4x6 photos to HP inkjet printers. The company said that iPrint Photo is fully compatible with Bonjour, Apple's implementation of the ZeroConf "zero-configuration" networking protocol. Still, some of the older HP inkjet printers may not be compatible with the technology.
The company managed to come out with an extremely easy to use app, as it only demands a few clicks to complete the process – once the iPrint Photo application button on the iPhone is clicked and the images selected, by pressing the print button from the phone’s screen, users will finish their work.
There is also a version of the app for Windows Mobile devices, but there are business-oriented and significantly harder to use.
