HP Releases Its New 2140 Netbook

Looking to make a name for itself in the Netbook market, HP prepared the release of its new Mini 2140 model. The company’s effort to release a new model so soon after HP 2133 Mini-Note appears to have been worth it, as the device brings new parts that are faster and more energy-efficient.

Its design features represent another important factor in its appeal, with the company’s developers agreeing on the same aluminum finish from the 2133 model, which was received with great enthusiasm.

The device will be presented during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which will begin on January 8 and end on January 11.

Kyle Thornton, HP's worldwide product manager for business notebook PCs, explained that one of the biggest concerns was to provide the device with a good battery. According to his statement, even with a conventional three-cell battery, the 2140 should run up to four hours on a single charge, which is almost twice as long as the 2133's battery life of two hours and 15 minutes. The significant improvement is due to the switch from the 2133’s 1.2 GHz Via C7-M processor to the 1.6 GHz Atom N270 but also because "We made a great improvement in the thermals," he concluded.

The Netbook segment still has a lot of room for new releases and HP is looking to address the needs of the everyday user, by providing an attractive and economic, useful and with a long-lasting battery. Its competition at this point includes Acer Inc’s Aspire One model, which is considered the most power-efficient model available on the market.
