HP Launches Firebird Gaming Desktop PC

This week at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, HP will highlight its new line-up of gaming PCs, the “HP Firebird with VoodooDNA” series, which will consist of two models, the 802 and 803. The two computers will be aimed both at core gamers and at style-conscious users through the powerful hardware, sleek looks and compact size.

The Firebird is part of the HP Blackbird and Voodoo Omen gaming PCs. The new models will share style features from the Blackbird, but it will be smaller and more appealing overall. It is expected that the 802 and the 803 will be as easy to service and upgrade as the Blackbird series, although the more cramped space will make it a bit harder.

The Firebird series will be powered by quad-core processors from Intel and will have generous storage space and RAM memory. The base-model 802 will come with a Q9400 Core 2 Quad processor, 4 GB of RAM, two 250 GB hard drives and two NVIDIA GeForce 9800S graphics units with SLI configuration enabled.

The more powerful 803 will have a more potent processor, the Q9550 and two 320 GB hard drives. While the base model will be available only with a slot-loading DVD burner, the 803 will be equipped with a slot-loading Blu-Ray player and DVD burner combo drive.

Among other interesting  feature of the new Firebird series, the most important are the external power supply that will make for better power consumption and which will free space in the chassis. As with other gaming desktops PCs, the processor will be liquid-cooled.

Prices for the Firebird series will start from $1,799, thus fitting it perfectly between the new HP touchscreen-enabled media center desktops and the company’s high end gaming rigs.
