Six months after successfully testing the waters with its
line of Mini-notebook PCs for students, HP introduced three new mini-models of
a fresh HP Mini 1000 line, which focus on the needs of Internet-centric
consumers, mobile professionals, social-media enthusiasts and fashion-forward
women.
HP called its mini-PC line a “simplified Internet experience
in a sleek, ultra-portable design.” The three models are designed for “information
snacking” and “content enjoyment” rather than rich content-creation capabilities
available on regular PCs, the company said.
“Staying connected to your world – however you define it –
is increasingly important to people on the go,” Ted Clark, senior vice president
and general manager Notebook Global Business Unit, said in a statement.
The HP Mini 1000 is one of the three new models offered by
HP, and comes with Windows XP Home, Ethernet jack, 2 USB ports, Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth wireless capabilities, with 3G capabilities coming up in December.
The HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition comes with an inspired
fresh designed by the fashion designer, and features a 10.2-inch diagonal
Bright/View display. The mini-notebook includes the same capabilities as the HP
Mini 1000.
The third model, HP Mini 1000 with MIE (Mobile Internet
Experience) has an HP-developed interface that makes it easy for users to enjoy
digital content on demand and on the go. Furthermore, MIE also brings instant
messaging, email and Skype for online video chat, and comes with the Linux
operating system.
HP will sell them for $399, $699 and $379 respectively in
the United States. However, while the HP Mini 1000 is available already, the HP
Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition will become available in mid-December, while the
HP Mini 1000 with MIE will start selling in the United States in January.
