Cable channel HBO managed to secure the rights to an untitled Barack Obama documentary which will be produced by Edward Norton. The exact financial details of the deal weren’t made public, but according to several media sources, the contract was signed for a seven-figure sum.
It was director Amy Rice’s idea and she brought it to Edward Norton’s Classic 5 Films company in 2006. Norton did his part and secured the cooperation with Barack Obama, United States’ newly-elected president.
The film company has been documenting Barack Obama since 2006. Shooting will continue through Obama’s inauguration which is scheduled on January 20, 2009. As a part of the agreement with Obama, directors Amy Rice and Alicia Sams were allowed to film the Illinois Senator behind the scenes even before he launched his campaign last year and continued to do so through his victory this week.
"We believe this film will capture a tipping point in American history, when a new generation of leadership emerged and old prejudices were finally vaulted over," Edward Norton, who produced the project with Stuart Blumberg and Bill Migliore, reportedly told Variety.
HBO has been trying to secure the rights for this documentary for several months. The movie will most likely be launched next year.
