Actress Gwyneth Paltrow said Monday at the London premiere of her new film “Two Lovers”
that she was supporting friend Madonna “in all the ways” she could after the
recent divorce announcement.
“Two Lovers,” Gwyneth Paltrow’s second film to be released
this year after summer blockbuster “Iron Man,” was screened Monday as part of
the BFI London Film Festival and this marked its UK premiere.
Paltrow drew interest though not only as a movie star but
also as the very famous friend of the very famous Madonna who is now famously
divorcing. The actress told reporters while walking the red carpet that she had
kept in touch with the singer these past days.
The 36-year-old mother of two said Madonna was “a dear
friend” and that she supported her in “all the ways” she could. Madonna’s
publicist ended months of speculation last week by revealing in a statement
that the pop icon and her husband of nearly eight years, British director Guy
Ritchie, had “agreed” to divorce.
It has been months of continuous speculation that all was
not exactly well in the Ritchie household. Earlier this spring, Madonna issued
a statement through her publicist (the same one that now confirmed the
breakup), denying there was anything amiss in her marriage.
The couple also attended the 61st edition of the Cannes Film
Festival together in May, thus putting an end to a long string of public
appearances made separately. Later that summer, Madonna issued another
statement, this time denying she was in any way romantically involved with New York
Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
The singer’s publicist said Sunday that a divorce settlement
had not been reached, as reported in the media. Custody arrangements for the
couple’s three children have not been finalized either, she said.
Paltrow, like Madonna, lives partly in the UK. She is
married to British musician Chris Martin, frontman of Coldplay. Paltrow and
Madonna have been snapped by the paparazzi on the streets of London before or after joint yoga classes.
