Gun N’ Roses vocal Axl Rose threatened to take Dr Pepper to court for failing to keep their word and give all Americans a free drink if the rock band released a new album this year.
Dr Pepper drinks company pledged to give a free drink to al Americans after Guns N’ Roses announced several release dates for their album without honoring them. The rockers finally launched their album, “Chinese Democracy,” this week.
Axl Rose’s attorney is seeking full-page apologies in four major newspapers, and “appropriate payment.” The four major newspapers are The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
"The redemption scheme your company clumsily implemented for this offer was an unmitigated disaster which defrauded consumers and, in the eyes of vocal fans, ruined the day of Chinese Democracy's release," attorney Alan Gutman said in a statement according to BBC News.
Gutman also said it will ask for an appropriate payment for his clients because Dr Pepper has used and abused on Guns N’ Roses’ publicity and intellectual property rights without authorization.
A Dr Pepper spokesperson said it was one of the largest responses the company had ever received for a giveaway.
“Chinese Democracy” was criticized by the Chinese officials who described the rock album as a "venomous attack" on the nation.
