A gunman turned the Fort Worth birthday party of a nine-year-old into a blood bath, local police said.
The gunman reportedly drove by the house where the birthday party was being held and fired at the attendants. The shooting killed a woman, a 5-year-old girl and wounded four other people.
The woman identified as Annette Stevenson, 48, died at the scene, while the 5-year-old girl, Queshawn Stevenson, was rushed to the hospital, but the severe wounds to her neck and stomach made the treatment impossible. She died early Monday at the hospital, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.
The gunman also hit the nine-year-old birthday girl, who was actually struck by hit by shrapnel and three other: a woman and two children, authorities said.
"I am angry because they shot at kids. It doesn't make any sense," said Martha Reed, who said she is the niece of the woman who was killed, told the newspaper.
The conditions of the wounded weren’t released as a request of the parents, said Winifred King, a spokeswoman for Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.
On Monday, there was still no medical information on the wounded woman.
The party was being held at Annette Stevenson's house. The gunman drove by the duplex and opened fire, police said.
Investigators are currently trying to determine whether the house was being targeted and if so, what could be the reasons that drove the man to act in such a brutal way.
Police refused to reveal the relationship between the woman and the child.
Witnesses said the 48-year-old woman was shot as she was trying to get the kids inside the house for safety according to Dallas-Fort Worth television station WFAA.
