According to police, a man opened fire in a bank in Waterbury,
a western Connecticut city, on Wednesday
injuring one person.
Shortly after the robbery a car crash occurred and was believed
to be connected with the robbery.
The attack on the bank happened after 11 a.m. at a Webster Bank on Highland
Avenue, police said.
They said they already had one suspect in custody but were
searching for another one after the car crashed occurred.
During the bank robbery one person was shot. The victim was Felix
Sambuco, a 22-year veteran and battalion chief of the Waterbury Fire
Department, who was wounded in the right leg. He was taken to a hospital to be
treated for non-life threatening injuries, MSNBC reports.
A few minutes after the robbery, a car which matched the
description of the one which fled from the scene was involved in an accident on
a Route 8 not far away from the scene of the accident, according to state
police Lt. J. Paul Vance.
Police were searching for the suspect who fled from the car.
Authorities didn’t know if money were taken out of the bank.
Police locked eight schools in the area as a precaution because
the suspect was armed.
The robber fled on foot.
