Guitar Hero This! Beatles Game in the Works

It seems so natural yet who could have seen this coming? Activision and MTV Games are reportedly in talks to include songs from legendary Brit band the Beatles in both Guitar Hero and Rock Band, to the general delight of generations of fans.

Grandparents, parents and children alike may warmly welcome this addition to the much-appreciated video games. Activision and MTV Games are reportedly discussing with representatives for the Beatles, Apple Corps and EMI, in order to include some of the iconic band’s songs into Guitar Hero and Rock Band, according to the Financial Times.

This would be a major breakthrough, to say the least, as the Beatles catalog has long been inaccessible, intangible and completely unattainable for digital licensing.

Apple Corps, a company set up by the Fab Four in 1968, manages the band’s business interests while EMI owns the Beatles master recordings.

The Guitar Hero franchise has been hugely popular, selling more than 20 million units in sales worth over $1 billion. Adding Beatles tunes to the video game can only bring out more customers and enhance sales even further.

The music industry has embraced the franchise, as proven by the eagerness of bands and artists such as Def Leppard, The Eagles, Van Halen, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Foo Fighters and The Smashing Pumpkins to be featured on the forthcoming Guitar Hero World Tour.

Rock Band has sold more than 3 million copies since its release in late 2007. The music video game features songs such as Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid,” Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” among many many others.

Activision declined to comment on the reports. A representative for MTV Games would only say, neutrally, “We are talking to virtually every major rock artist all the time about ways we might get them involved in Rock Band.”
