Grieving Kanye West Cancels Gig for Victoria's Secret

Rapper Kanye West, who is in mourning after the sudden death of his mother Donda West, has reportedly canceled a scheduled performance for Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Kanye West was reportedly listed to perform for the 2007 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which was scheduled to tape Thursday but he has cancelled the gig due to the death of his mother, Donda West, Entertainment Tonight reports.

The show will air December 4 on CBS. It will also feature the much-anticipated debut reunion performance of 1990s girl group the Spice Girls.

Donda West, a retired professor and former chairwoman of the Chicago State University English department, and onetime manager of son Kanye West, passed away Saturday, one day after undergoing a medical procedure by Beverly Hill plastic surgeon Jan Adams.

The 58-year-old was reportedly found unresponsive and in respiratory arrest at her home; she was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after admittance. An official cause of death will not be released for at least six weeks, pending further toxicology tests results. An autopsy conducted Tuesday was inconclusive.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has said death was likely due to “complications from surgery.”

Jan Adams told the Associated Press through a spokesperson that he performed an abdominoplasty (commonly referred to as a “tummy tuck”) and breast reduction on Donda West. He did not specify when or where the surgery was performed. He denied reports that her death was a result of the procedure. He told TMZ.com her death was not caused by the surgery, suggesting a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting after returning home from surgery as possible causes of death.

CNN has revealed that Adams is in trouble with the Medical Board of California over several DUI cases and at least two malpractice cases, according to legal documents filed in California.

Adams has reportedly had at least two DUI convictions since 2003, according to CNN, which quotes medical board executive director David Thornton, who filed a complaint against Adams earlier this year, accusing him of violating the Medical Practice Act and requesting that the board either revoke or suspend Adams’ license.

Thornton accuses Adams of unprofessional conduct and abuse of alcohol in his complaint, dated April 10. He asserts in the document that Adams has “multiple convictions for alcohol-related offenses” and that he was put on probation and ordered to complete an alcohol-counseling program in 2003.

Adams hosted “Plastic Surgery: Before and After” on the Discovery Health Network for five years, with the final episode airing in June. The network had continued to air reruns but four episodes scheduled for this week have been removed. “We're just trying to be as sensitive as possible to everyone involved,” network spokesman Chris Finnegan told the AP.
