Green Lantern Movie in the Making

Warner Bros. has hired Greg Berlanti to co-write and direct a live-action feature adaptation of DC Comics’ superhero flick “Green Lantern,” based on the most popular characters of the studio since 1940.

The story has at its center test pilot Hal Jordan, whose mission is to defend a section of the universe. He will be successfully helped by a huge powerful ring that was given to him by a dying alien, who reveals to him the fact that there is an interstellar police force known as Green Lantern Corps. The hero also finds out about the existence of the Guardians of the Universe, who make their living on a planet named Oa.

“To me, this was on the last great comic book movie that hasn't been made,” Berlanti told the Hollywood Reporter. “It was a comic book with a real mythology that you would see in a lot of the space operas and the sci-fi books. The best part about it, anybody can be become one of the Green Lanterns because anyone can end up with that ring.”

In this moment, Greg Berlanti is the executive producer of the ABC shows “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Brothers & Sisters” and the upcoming “Eli Stone,” a drama that he created with Marc Guggenheim.

Marc Guggenheim was also the co-writer of the Superman/Batman, Amazing Spiderman, Wolverine and Blade comics, together with Michael Green. Berlanti met the two of them when working on “Jack & Bobby,” the Warner Bros series he co-created.

When meeting the DC executives last year, Berlanti presented 30 drawn images as key scenes of the movie he wanted to direct, according to Reuters. He also introduced a series of movies about how Hal Jordan becomes a member of the intergalactic police force to Warner Bros executives.

In an era where technology is at his best, Berlanti found the perfect scene for his hero: "”The danger and the fear from a lot of people is that it would be silly,” said Berlanti, as quoted by Reuters. “In these post-'Harry Potter' and 'Lord of the Rings' days, it's not any more fantastical than that. It's taken movies like that to make it feel as if a Green Lantern film is possible.”
