Garmin International revealed on
Thursday a new portable navigation device that is able to do lots of tricks. Called
Garmin nuvi 880, the new navigation device features speech recognition
capabilities, dynamic MSN Direct content, Bluetooth wireless technology and
others.
However, the most notable special
trick that Garmin nuvi 880 provides users with is the speech recognition
feature. Users will have to simply say “find nearest restaurant”, if they are
hungry, and they will be offered a list of nearby restaurants. nuvi 880 also “knows”
the names of the most important business brands, such as Starbucks, for
example.
According to its maker, Garmin
nuvi 880 works straight out of the box, without previous “training” to
recognize voice commands being needed. "Now it's possible to keep both
hands on the wheel, tell Nuvi what to do and where to go, and you're on your
way to stress-free travel," said Dan Bartel, the company’s worldwide vice
president of sales.
Garmin International’s GPS device
is the first one in the world featuring speech recognition capabilities and it
retails for no less than $1,000.
Garmin nuvi 880 was announced in
conjunction with this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where it will be displayed along
with Garmin International’s 10 other brand new products.
