Taylor Momsen, the 15-year-old actress who plays the rebellious teenager Jenny Humphrey on the hit US TV show “Gossip Girl,” is battling a "severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection," as her doctor put it.
Momsen checked into a Los Angeles hospital and is under treatment since Sunday. She left the medical facility Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Wednesday (October 22), but the treatment continues.
"I have been treating Miss Taylor Momsen for the last few days," Shawn Nasseri, the actress’ doctor told MTV News.
"She has been hospitalized for a severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection since Sunday.”
Nasseri described Momsen as an excellent patient. According to his statement, the actress took aggressive antibiotics and medications and will probably recover in the next three to five days. The actress’ reaction to the medication was good and the fact that she is expected to get well quite soon is very good news considering the fact that her doctor described the condition of her infection as severe.
However, it is unknown when she will resume work on the TV show.
It all started as Momsen was in Los Angeles for a school exam when she "woke up with a sore throat," according to a US Weekly report. The actress saw a doctor and she was advised to see a ear, nose and throat specialist.
"Her mom flew out to get her, and is flying back [to New York] with Taylor this week. She's in unbelievable spirits," a source told Us Weekly.
The infection which Taylor Momsen is experiencing can swell the throat to dangerous levels.
