Google’s My Location Sees You A Little Blue Dot

Have you ever been lost? If the answer is yes, than that won’t happen again, because Google has a new technology. Of course you will never get lost again, but only if you have the latest version of Google Maps application for mobile phones installed on your cell.

Why? Because it has a very useful feature called My Location, which is capable to track the place where you are, based on the signals sent by the nearby cell towers. The signal is analyzed by Google-developed algorithms and in a matter of minutes your location will be displayed as a blue dot on the map.

The good news is that you don’t need a GPS-enabled mobile phone, but in this case My Location will display your location as a blue point surrounded by a light blue area, indicating some uncertainty about where you are.

In case you are amongst the happy owners of a GPS-enabled phone, you can still find My Location feature useful as Google said that it delivers a location estimate faster than GPS, provides coverage inside buildings (where GPS signals can be unreliable), and doesn't drain phone batteries as quickly as GPS.

And don’t worry about privacy issues, because Google does not collect any personally identifiable information. In case you don’t’ to use the Google Map’s latest feature, My Location can be disabled.

My Location, which is still in beta, is free of charge and it can be used on almost any Web-enabled phone.

Earlier this month, Google has teamed up with gas pump maker Gilbarco Veeder-Root to make high-tech pumps which will integrate a Google-powered touch display. The device will use an internet connection to uplink with Google Maps and will display local landmarks, hotels, restaurants and hospitals which can be selected by the gas station's owner.
