Google announced new features for it Gmail service. From now
on users will get more sidebar options allowing them to add the gadgets Google
Calendar and Google Docs. The new development enables certain changes such as
the movement of chat and labels to the right side, forming a more comprehensive
inbox.
This offer was requested by many of the company’s users and
Google finally decided to act on it. The calendar shows a user’s latest entries
(past and upcoming meetings and appointments) and the Docs provide information
about the latest used documents combined with a search function. Both gadgets
can be enabled by accessing Google Labs and once the new settings are saved,
everything is good to go.
Aside from these two gadgets, the company also released a third
feature designed to allow the introduction of any other feature by pasting the
URL of the wanted file. For now, the team involved admitted that the feature
could use a little more work as it is not very user friendly and an update is
expected in the near future.
There are also other aspects that will demand the
developers’ attention, as there are certain security issues that will occur
with some actions. Some of the gadgets are not fully compatible with https so
once the connection to Gmail will be attempted, users should expect some mixed
content warnings.
This type of efforts will continue in the near future, with
Google looking to bring its apps together in new and attractive ways.
