Google’s Android Market Grows, Last.fm on Google Phones, G2 in Spring

Google’s Android Market has increased significantly during the past three months since it was launched, but the increase was not significant enough to even seem to get close to Apple’s App Store.

Google said the Android Market recorded more than 800 applications in the fourth quarter. It’s a good number, but a mere dwarf compared to the 15,000 apps announced by App Store. However, Apple’s huge success is quite logic and not surprising at all. It has an ability to offer paid apps which it used to its full capacity and it did the same with the huge popularity of the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Although when launched, the Android Market seemed to be in a position to catch up with Apple’s App Store because of it was far less restrictive about the creation of apps, it didn’t manage to pick up the pace Apple imposed. The main reason may be the lack of a payment option, industry analysts said.

Last.fm app for Google-powered cell phones

The latest piece of novelty on the Google Android Market is the addition of Last.fm’s mobile version of its social radio platform for the phones that run on the Android platform. The Last.fm app, which enable users to listen to the company’s streaming radio stations, is already available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

If you have a G1 get it! It’s available and free.

And last but not least… The G2 in Spring?

The blogosphere is about to explode at rumors that the T-Mobile G2 may hit shelves as soon as this spring. According to Gizmodo, the new Android-based samrtphone will lack the QWERTY keyboard and will have a touch screen instead to make it able to compete with the star of the industry – the iPhone.
