While everyone talks about the possible deal between Google and Twitter its seems like this is no more than a rumor.
Mike Arrington from TechCrunch.com was the one who started the rumor in a post, saying that the deal is in its “late stage” and there are three sources confirmed the information.
But it seems like the alleged deal is nothing more than a rumor. Kara Swisher has reported on her blog,
BoomTown that a source close to Twitter denied the rumor.
Instead, it seems like Google and Twitter have held talks about a common project, which can be a real time search engine. “There was a discussion with [Google executive Marissa Mayer's] group about real-time search and about product stuff. It was a couple weeks ago. It was very preliminary…and that was that,” has said Swisher’s source. According to Swisher, another source close to Twitter was refuted the rumor.
Meanwhile there are no official comments about the deal, neither from Google, nor from Twitter.
Twitter, a messaging service launched in 2006 enables users to post and read short messages, limited to 140 characters, in a communications platform that operates across a variety of networks and devices.
Twitter’s team currently consists of only 29 employees, and at the end of last year, 11% of online American adults said they used Twitter or a service like it. Twitter and Twitter-like service are used by about one in five adults between the ages of 18 and 34. Ten percent of 35- to 44-year-olds and 5% of 45- to 54-year-olds use Twitter.
