The proud owners of iPhone will benefit not only by the
cutting-edge technologies delivered to them by Apple, but also they will have
access to a new interface for Google and
its services especially designed make their life easier.
A new application unveiled today by Google integrates
multiple services such as Google Search, Gmail, Calendar and Reader into a
single interface, making it easy for iPhone users to fin and switch between
them.
The iPhone owners are not required to install some software
or tweaking their device. It’s enough to simply point their web browser to http://www.google.com and the new interface
it will be enabled right away.
Of course, in case they prefer the normal Google interface,
which for them is dubbed as “Classic”, they can switch right away.
The new interface is made by Steve
Kanefsky, Software Engineer, Google mobile team.
“I started thinking about how to use AJAX technology to improve Google on the
iPhone. I set out to create an application that would preload my favorite
Google products and allow me to switch between them instantly. I wanted web
results as well as image, local, and news results without having to repeat my
search. I wanted to check Gmail and my news feeds in Google Reader without
having to load a new page every time. I also wanted Google Suggest to save me
time typing queries on the virtual keyboard,” he wrote on Google Mobile Blog.
According to media reports, the new interface is also
available on iPod Touch, the latest MP3 player released by Apple. In case you do
not own an iPhone or an iPod Touch, but you are still interested to see how the
new interface works, then maybe you should read the extensive review posted by Ars
Technica.
Apple said it would release a native iPhone developer's kit in
February 2008, which will allow developers to release native applications that
do not require the use of Safari to launch.
