Google and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg have launched a new initiative today, designed at helping tourists and residents to get around New York without feeling like they’ve missed any of the city’s exciting places and events.
Everything there is to see and experience in New York City was gathered in nycgo.com, a new website that combines the Google Maps experience with the latest announcements about discounts, hot night spots or must-see places. All information can be sent easily to one’s phone through a text message.
Users can check out the website for information about hotels, restaurants, shops, events, and can easily plan a city tour they will not forget. While in town, they could also check the Official New York City Information Center at 810 Seventh Avenue, between 52nd and 53rd Streets, where they can get a better picture of what they should see and do.
The center offers visitors anything from planning a city tour by using Google Maps on interactive map tables, to watching a tour of the chosen itinerary on a gigantic video wall with the help of Google Earth technology, which enables a 3D virtual tour of the city.
The new initiative makes it possible for phone users with data plans to use Google Maps for mobile to navigate the city even when they’re on the go.
Our city’s travel and tourism industry is as important today as ever, Mayor Bloomberg said, as quoted by the Associated Press. He also added that they’ve invested new tools to attract visitors and formed innovative partnerships with brands such as Google and Travelocity to promote the city to people around the world.
