It seems that the world financial crisis has begun to be quite menacing, as the other days Nortel filed for bankruptcy, and most recently, Google announced that it will lay off 100 recruiters. Google declared that they will still be hiring people, but in smaller numbers, so the 100 recruiters had to be laid off.
The giant Internet company has already cut contracts with external recruitment agencies and contractors and it seems that it is taking the safe way in dealing with the economic crisis. Google also announced that it will close engineering offices in Texas, Norway, and Sweden.
Google is currently one of the biggest companies in the world, having the most powerful and most popular Internet search engine in the world, designing all sort of web applications that can be used either via a computer or on mobile devices. Google is regarded as a company that has innovation as a constant goal, always improving its services and products.
The economic crisis could not be avoided even by this Internet giant, so in other statements Google announced that it will abandon its support for some of its lesser known services, including the microblogging platform Jaiku, which Google acquired in 2007, and Google Video, which was launched before the purchase of the popular YouTube.
Other big companies have announced lay-offs from their staff. Among these companies, Motorola has declared that it will lay off another 4,000 employees, mostly from its Mobile Device business, on top of the 3,000 layoffs it announced last quarter.
