The first improvement is that Google now offers a broader scale of related searches. The new technology aims to better understand what people are really looking for on the Internet. The new technology Google is introducing is called semantic search and it basically helps the search engine recognize the broader idea of what the user is searching for rather than focus on the specific words. 

 

“For example, if you search for [principles of physics], our algorithms understand that "angular momentum," "special relativity," "big bang" and "quantum mechanic" are related terms that could help you find what you need,” wrote Ori Allon, Google’s Search Quality Team technical chief on the Google blog. 

 

The second new feature that will increase the efficiency of Web searching through Google offers longer snippets of data under the hyperlink containing the specific words. The longer snippets make it easier for the users to make sure that the links that contain the words searched for are what they are looking for. The words that are inserted in the search box are listed in boldface. 

 

However, it remains to be seen how the user behavior will change with the introduction of the new features. Will users find the site they are looking for faster? This is what Google said it aims with the new features. But, it’s also possible that the new features will keep users on Google longer.
