Google announced that it will make available a huge two-story tent for 500 bloggers that will cover the Democratic convention that will take place next week in Denver. The structure will offer a space of 8000 square meters where these bloggers will be able to sleep, have access to the Internet and enjoy several Google services.
The move is Google's most important in this direction. Four years ago, the company had only a small presence at this sort of events. The fact that it gets so strongly involved in this type of activities is just another sign of the power it has acquired over the last four years.
The bloggers who want to benefit of the services the company offers will have to pay $100 each. Google announced that it will make available a tent where the bloggers will get to post videos on YouTube. This will probably turn the company's video site into one of the most important sources of information covering the event.
Google also announced that it will offer similar services to the Republican convention.
It seems that the bloggers' increased presence and influence has been recognized by the Democrats. If four years ago only a few such new-age journalists were allowed to attend the convention, this year about 200 bloggers have already been accredited to take part at the events.
According to the Washington Post, Joanna Burgos, a convention spokeswoman said that “We recognize it's a whole new world out there with bloggers but we're really embracing it. It's so many more channels to get our message out.”
