Google Flavors iGoogle With Canvas View Gadgets

Google has announced the availability of a new version of iGoogle, which addresses only U.S. users for now, and offers them access to canvas view gadgets, which means they won’t have to leave their iGoogle page anymore when they want to access more content.

The search giant explained that users will be able to read news, play games and watch videos in full-page view. However, not all gadgets have canvas views yet, and until then, users will have to manage with what Google rolled out, basically the best of them.

As an example, Google mentioned the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post gadgets, which offer users the possibility to view full-page text and watch videos that load quickly.

Furthermore, game addicts will get to spend some time with the Sudoku gadget, which will allow them to play in full-page view the thousands of puzzles available. In addition to that, the Go Comics gadget gives user the possibility to choose the comic they want to see and read them in full view.

The TV Guide gadget offers full-screen TV listings that can be localized by zip code, celebrity news and photos, Google explained. The Flixster’s movies gadget opens access to trailers, ratings, theater information and more.

The Gmail gadget provides access to Gmail, for sending or replying to messages for example, all without leaving the iGoogle page. There is also a weather gadget, a Google Finance gadget, and an iLike gadget, which offers user in the U.S. the possibility to watch YouTube and Current News videos in full screen view.

Google said that although only a part of its users will be able to enjoy the upgrade, the new developments will come soon in other countires as well, and that more features and gadgets are on the way.
