Google Earth is one of the most famous and best designed programs that maps the Earth according to images gathered through satellite, aerial photography and GPS functions.
The program was initially called Earth Viewer and was designed by Keyhole which was purchased by Google in 2004.
Recently, this famous application has become available for download at the App Store for iPod Touch and iPhone. This is regarded as a major step forwards for the program as it has always targeted for portability and accessibility. The iPhone experience lets people explore the entire globe in 3D and, so far, the application performs wonderful on Apple’s touchscreen phone.
In order for an iPhone user to use the service, a previous installation of iTunes is required and, of course, an available iTunes account is mandatory. The best thing about running Google Earth on an iPhone is the fact that the touchscreen makes up for an incredible experience, allowing the user to navigate the map by using all of the intelligent touch gestures the phone is capable of.
Overall, the touchscreen beats the mouse as it gives the impression of total control and makes the entire experience more fun. One could tilt the phone up or down in order to change the horizon line, scroll around with one finger, zoom in using two fingers and even rotate the entire map with the use of your fingertips. The application is also equipped with some sort of reset button which is the compass located in the upper right corner of the screen.
All in all, this is a great thing, Google Earth on iPhone just seems natural and even though could complain that the icons are a bit small, the technology used in the touch screen makes for very precise typing.
