Disney has uploaded a virtual tour of the Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida on Google Earth. The tour will allow users to fly above the streets of the theme parks and access all kinds of information by clicking on the icons that will be integrated in the virtual tour.
Disney’s effort will probably be well received by the public, especially because it is a known fact that the park’s huge dimensions might get people confused over what they would like to visit first. The program will also allow users to book tickets to the rides and hotels that are offered by Disney World.
To get the project going, professional photographers have taken more than 100,000 pictures of all the attractions found in the park. Based on their work, more than 1,500 3D models were made, from hotels - interiors and all - to the cool rides that people could take.
The project is the biggest 3D model ever to be uploaded to Google Earth, and will probably be of great help to both companies. While Disney will benefit of the fact that more people will find out about the attractions of Disney World, the search engine giant has just added a big amount of content to its service, which will translate into more traffic, and more ads-related revenues.
To take the virtual tour, a user must first download the Google Earth 4.3 program, then launch Google Earth and search for Disney World. After taking the usual plunge from the stratosphere to Florida, the user must click on the golden Mickey Mouse ears and then click on “Show Disney World in 3D.”
