The Internet is said to be the only infinite thing created by man and because of its growing importance in our daily lives, using the web rapidly and efficiently is a top priority. Both Google and Facebook have created services that let their users sign in on any participating site with one single id, or with their accounts.
According to Google, the purpose of Friend Connect is to make the web a more accessible place and facilitate the interaction between different people from all across the globe. Friend Connect will allow users to log in to sites by simply using one of their accounts from Google, Yahoo, AOL or OpenID, and other online sites including Plaxo and Google's Orkut.
The new Facebook feature was first announced in May and has been, since then, in private beta testing. What is great about Facebook Connect is that users can bring back to the site everything they have accumulated on the third party sites.
Another great thing is that any developer or site can join Facebook Connect, in this way becoming partners and letting users to use their Facebook account information on the respective sites. This is for a general good of being able to have an almost universal signing in profile, making surfing on the net so much easier.
On the other hand, there are sites where one may not want its personal information to appear available to others, there are moments when we don’t want to share, and keep everything to ourselves. Good thing Private Browsing is coming soon.
