Google, Amazon To Make Book Titles Available On Mobile Phones

Today we can access books from almost anywhere, so how about having them right on our mobile phones? Google on Thursday announced that a library of 1.5 million mobile public domain books is now available for U.S. mobile users to browse.

The tiles, which are already included in Google’s Book Search, will become accessible on devices such as the iPhone or Android, by simply following this link http://books.google.com/m in the mobile phone’s web browser.

Users will now have the chance to do something else than just play games on their mobile phones, as Google has optimized the experience so it would fit the small screens of mobile phones. The experience will probably never be as accurate as on an e-book reader, but will at least give users something more to do.

And speaking of e-book readers, Kindle’s creator is also planning on bringing book titles on mobile phones. Amazon did not give an exact date for that, but the announcement came shortly before another big announcement is expected to take place, concerning the next-generation Kindle.

Amazon launched Kindle in November 2007, in an attempt to reinvent the electronic books, or at least the way they are read. In October last year, some leaked photos of what appeared to be the next-generation Kindle circulated the media, giving birth to speculation on the date Amazon might be ready to introduce it.

Although there is no confirmation yet, Amazon is said to make the announcement next week, during a news conference at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City.
