Google Adds ‘Share’ Feature to Its Google Health

Google added a new feature called Share this Profile to its Google Health Wednesday, an option that makes it easy to share medical records and personal health information with family, friends and doctors.

Google Health service was launched in May 2008, enabling users to upload medical records from organizations, enter their own data and create their own profile, search for viable information on health conditions or ask for a second opinion on their diagnosis.

How the new feature works? You’ll only have to log in to Google Health, click on Share this Profile, and type in the e-mail address of the person you want to share your information with. That person will receive an e-mail with a link to your profile, will be able to see your profile, but not edit it. After 30 days, the link to view your profile will expire.

As far as privacy concerning, the new feature includes a user activity report to monitor who has visited your profile.

“Just a few years ago, my father suffered a minor heart attack and was sent to the ER. I arrived on the scene in a panic, and was asked what medications he was taking. To my surprise, I had no clue. If my father had a Google Health account, and had shared his profile with me, I would have been up-to-date on his current medications,” Sameer Samat, director of product management for Google, wrote on the company’s official blog.
