…or at least this is the story I’m going to relate further.
Brittiny and Gregg Peters from Gainesville, Georgia are the amazing parents of three children. In April 2008, their two-year old son, Noah was diagnosed with autism and sensory and gastrointestinal disorders. Then in the summer, their seven-year-old daughter, Ayla, was diagnosed with a rare form of juvenile arthritis. Their world fell apart.
The children’s treatments cost the family a fortune that the medical insurance cannot cover. So, the Peters decided to sell everything they own on eBay except their house in order to pay for the medical bills.
This week the couple accepted a winning $20,000 eBay bid for all of their belongings, but they never expected what was going to happen. The winning bidders, Donnia and Keith Blair of Fort Worth, Texas, informed the Peters that they would honor the terms and send the money, but with one condition.
“They informed us this morning that they do not intend on taking possession of the things. They’re basically purchasing them and giving them back,” the Peters said.
The money will pay their children’s expensive medical bills ($15,000), while the rest will help pay for the on-going treatment they need.
The gesture knocked the Peters down, but they were happy to see such things still happen. “The American people are good people. And if they see a family, a city, in crisis, they run towards that family or that city and put their arms around them, and that’s the thing that’s touched us most,” the Peters said.
On the other hand, the Blairs said modestly that they just wanted to help, the Associated Press reported. “We’ve really been blessed the last few years and we saw an opportunity to help,” Donnia Blair said.
