Beijing - Cha Dong Min of South Korea claimed victory in the men's plus 80-kilogram taekwondo category Saturday while Mexico's Maria Del Rosario Espinoza prevailed in the women's plus 67kg division.
Cha defeated Greece's Alexandros Nikolaidis 5-4 in the final to claim Olympic gold while Arman Chilmanov of Kazakhstan took bronze after Angel Valodia Matos of Cuba was disqualified in the second round of their bout.
Nigeria's Chika Yagazie Chukwumerije took the other bronze thanks to a 4-3 victory over Akmal Irgashev of Uzbekistan.
Del Rosario Espinoza defeated Norway's Nina Solheim 3-1 in her final.
Natalia Falavigna of Brazil secured bronze after a 5-2 victory over Karolina Kedzierska of Sweden in their bout. In the other bronze medal fight, Sarah Stevenson of Great Britain defeated Egypt's Noha Abdrabo 5-1.
Mexico has now taken two gold here as Guillermo Perez also won the men's 58kg event.
"The Beijing Olympic Games are one of the greatest Olympic Games in the history of Mexican taekwondo because we have got two gold medals here," said Del Rosario Espinoza.
"For Mexico, it's a historical breakthrough. For me, this gold medal means a lot because of my hard training over the years."
