Rich Aurilia provided the go-ahead RBI single that broke the tie in the eight inning and Kevin Frandsen contributed with a two-run double to San Francisco Giants’ 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies, increasing their winning streak to five in a row.
With the score tied at 1-1 after eight innings, Randy Winn, Barry Bonds and Ryan Klesko all singled to load the bases with nobody out. Bengie Molina grounded to shortstop, causing a force-out at home. But Molina beat catcher Yorvit Torrealba's throw to first base, keeping them loaded.
Aurilia singled on Jorge Julio's next pitch to see Rajai Davis reach home. Frandsen sent his ball past third base on a 2-0 delivery, scoring Klesko and Molina to clinch the Giants' 10th triumph in 12 games.
San Francisco’s starting Barry Zito held the Rockies to four hits and one run, fanning seven and walking one. Zito finished August with a 2.50 ERA, dropping his overall ERA from 5.28 to 4.59.
With the Giants scoring late in the eight, the victory deserves by Zito went to relief pitcher Brian Wilson (1-0), who pitched a scoreless inning. Zito has given up three runs and 10 hits over 22 innings in his last three starts, but he has only one victory to show for it.
The seven- time MVP Barry Bonds didn’t get his 762nd home run. He has hits in six of his last seven games, blasting three home runs over that stretch.
