The merger between Activision and Vivendi is widely considered a good thing, as the two companies can create better games if they work together, everything meaning bigger funds, more people who work on the games, more ideas.
On the other hand, the merger left behind some game projects which could not meet the new policies of the two companies. One of the games was the next Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Arena which was took under the wing of Atari. Ghostbusters, World at Conflict: Soviet Assault or 50 Cent: Blood On the Sand were in the same position, but once again Atari comes to the rescue, announcing that it will produce the Ghostbusters game.
The Ghostbusters are a trademark in themselves and many have dreamt of a continuation of the series. The whacky humor and somewhat overly-exaggerated, over the top plot are what makes the Ghostbusters so beloved by the public and the game could just be the continuation die-hard fans need. Atari officially announced that it will produce Ghostbusters: The Video Game and that its release will be somewhere during 2009.
Clips of the game were shown previously this year, before the merger between Activision and Vivendi and the gameplay seemed quite impressive, the graphics looked nice and the environments well designed. If Atari wouldn’t have intervened, the loss of the Ghostbusters game would have really been a shame, as many gamers and fans of the series are waiting for the game in order to taste from the hit story one more time.
