The enthusiastic "High School Musical 3" (HSM 3) makes its big-screen debut worldwide this week. This is actually a teen phenomenon and one of the most successful made-for-television films of all time directed by Kenny Ortega. He has directed three out of the four successful Disney Channel Original Movies: “High School Musical” (2006), “The Cheetah Girls 2” (2006) and “High School Musical 2” (2007). Moreover he is behind 12 episodes of the popular and cozy “Gilmore Girls.”
At the age of 58, Kenny Ortega, who choreographed "Dirty Dancing" and brought "Newsies" to theaters is getting ready to bring “HSM 3” to the big screens. Therefore millions of devoted teens have certainly been counting down the days until the October 24 debut.
It is said that “HSM 3” is the culmination of what has introduced the musical form to a new generation, made it cool for boys to dance, and made its presence felt on a global scale. "I was at an orphanage in Kenya," said "HSM" director and choreographer Kenny Ortega, "and kids are yelling, 'Say hello to Troy! Say hello to Gabriella!’”
Therefore everyone can tell that Troy and Gabriella are the protagonists of this word wide highlight. They are portrayed by actors Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens.
Troy Bolton is a character in “High School Musical” and “High School Musical 2.” He attends East High in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is the star basketball player. In “HSM,” he and Gabriella meet at the New Year's Eve party. Both compete to win the roles in East High's school musical. In HSM 2, Troy gets a summer job at Lava Springs Country Club, owned by Sharpay and Ryan's father. He scrimmages against the University of Albuquerque basketball team, and competes in the club's talent show.
Gabriella basically has the same interests as Troy, the two being of course perfect for each other. She often questions her love for Troy because of one evil, manipulating girl, Sharpay. But she is ambitious, brave and strong. So what more could you wish for in a role model?
Laying the groundwork for at least the possibility of a "High School Musical 4," new and younger characters will be introduced, including a Sharpay protégé named Tiara (Jemma McKenzie-Brown) and two Chad devotees: Jimmie "the Rocket" Zara (Matt Prokop) and Donny (Justin Martin). Some established characters, like composer Kelsi (Olesya Rulin) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) will be given new chances to shine.
It’s rather predictable that “HSM 3” revolves around the East High seniors who live out their senior year and thus have to put up with all sorts of dilemmas regarding their wants their aspirations and values. Should Gabriella go to Stanford early, and miss the musical? Will Zac go to Juilliard, or play basketball for Albuquerque University? But no one's going to Iraq; no one's pregnant. And no one ever questions the orientation of the talented school choreographer, Ryan Evans. "We made the choice not to define him," Ortega said about Ryan, referring to himself and screenwriter Peter Barsocchini. "And I think I've had the most fun with him, of all the characters."
So get ready for freshness, young but high aspirations and teenage dramas that all of us went through at some point. It’s he best way to rediscover ourselves.
