George Clooney Wants to Make Movie about Osama bin Laden’s Driver

It’s a well known fact that George Clooney is one of the most prominent backer of Senator Barack Obama for president and it is also known that the actor knows a thing or two about politics. Now, the star is thinking of telling the story of Osama bin Laden’s driver.

According to The Los Angeles Times, the actor has bought the book rights from Jonathan Mahler and he wants to tell the story of Salim Hamdan, Osama bin Laden’s driver. George Clooney’s movie production company bought the book rights from journalist Jonathan Mahler who told Salim Hamdan’s story in “The Challenge.” Hamdan is a resident from Yemen who was convicted just last week of helping Al Qaeda’s leader, being sentenced to 5 ½ years in prison.

Salim Hamdan was convicted by a U.S. military tribunal at the Guantánamo Bay detention facility, even though his lawyer claimed he was just a driver who had taken the well-paid job in order to help his family. Salim Hamdan has already spent 7 years at Guantánamo and it has been said that there was the possibility he could return to Yemen.

“The Challenge” describes Salim Hamdan and his lawyer Charles Swift trying to fight the United Stated government. Clearly taking Salim Hamdan’s side, the book shows how insignificant people can get against such a powerful force like the government.

George Clooney is most likely to take the role of Charles Swift. The actor is backing Barack Obama and he is even helping him raise money as the star’s friends are some of the best paid actors in Hollywood.
