Apple’s updated iMac and Sony’s all-in-one Vaio LT series
have serious competition, as Gateway announced a stylish all-in-one PC to be
launched. Its brand new Gateway One is meant to be elegant and exquisite,
contrasting the previous bulky Profile series.
What is the sales potential of the new product is hard to
estimate for the moment, but Gateway One seems a good deal. Ranging from $1300
to $1800, it comes equipped with a 19-inch wide-screen display and Intel Core 2
Duo processors and the least number of visible wires.
Wireless keyboard and mouse, build-in webcam and headphones
are some of the facilities the One systems bring. The beauty of Gateway One is
accentuated by its extremely simple set up process. The wireless keyboard and
mouse don't require synchronization like most wireless devices, so consumers
can simply remove Gateway One from the box, plug in a single cable and they're
ready to go.
Adding seven USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire port, two memory
slots, two hard drive bays and a built-in CD-R/DVD-R optical drive, the
all-in-one PC Gateway proposes becomes more appealing.
Perhaps one of the most innovative
features on Gateway One is the PC's front polished surface, which delivers
high-fidelity audio, serving as a "hidden" speaker. NXT SoundVu
patented exciters hidden behind the front panel vibrate the panel surface to
create rich stereo audio. There is no need for external speakers, which only
create clutter, collect dust and send consumers looking for yet another power
plug.
For those that want to connect their PC
to an amplifier or entertainment system for digital sound, Gateway One's power
module includes an optical audio S/PDIF output jack and a coaxial audio output
jack.
Windows Vista and a Media Center
remote control enhance the entertainment value of the Gateway One. Consumers
can easily create and share digital documents, photos, music and videos,
participate in digital communities, and play online and offline games. The
wireless remote makes it easy to play music or movies from across the room.
The most technically-attractive configuration, the Gateway
One GZ7220 ($1800) sports a 2.0GHz Intel Duo processor, 3GB of DDR2 memory,
256MB of ATI Mobility Radeon video memory, 500GB hard disk, and a TV tuner.
The $1,299.99 configuration includes an Intel Core 2 Duo
T5250 dual-core processor; Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100; 320GB SATA
II hard drive and a 1.3 megapixel webcam.
If you can hardly wait to purchase the fashionable device,
you can do it from the retailer Best Buy, which is Gateway’s exclusive partner
to retail the PC. If your patience can last longer, until November to be more
precise, you can pre-order a system directly from Gateway to receive it.
Last month Sony unveiled VAIO LT HD PC/TV, a home system
with a 22-inch diagonal WSXGA+ screen, based also on Intel Core Duo and with 2
GB of RAM.
In August Apple updated its iMac line with 20 and 24 inch
screens and the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors running up to 2.8 GHz with
4MB of shared L2 cache and up to 4GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory.
