Gary Busey apologized for his strange behavior at the Oscars
last month, when he embraced actress Jennifer Garner.
In a statement issued by his rep, Busey declared he meant to
show no disrespect for Garner and that he regretted his gesture.
"I meant no disrespect to Ms. Jennifer Garner when I
met her at the Oscars and apologize if I made her uncomfortable," the
statement released by Busey’s publicist, Christi Blicharski, said.
During a live E! pre-show broadcast, Busey repeatedly
interrupted Ryan Seacrest’s interview with Laura Linney and Jennifer Garner.
Suddenly, he even embraced Garner, who seemed annoyed and struggled to maintain
her composure.
The bizarre actor, already known for his eccentricities,
said he had no idea a live interview was taking place at the moment. He
explained that Seacrest introduced the actresses to him and he simply greeted
them with joy, like he would have greeted any person he admired.
“I simply greeted both actresses with joy and open arms,
which is the way I would greet anyone I'm happy to meet,” Busey claimed.
“Everyone has experienced a handshake or hug which has turned awkward, and this
was no different.”
Feeling bad about the blunder, Busey even called to
Seacrest’s radio show, in order to explain his behavior, E!
Online reports.
During the phone call, the actor told Seacrest he deeply
appreciated his work and only wanted to pay him a compliment about his
spontaneity, being unaware of the fact that he was in the middle of a live
interview.
Gary Busey was nominated for the Oscars in 1978, for his
performance as Buddy Holly in “The Buddy Holly Story.” He also played in
“Lethal Weapon,” starring Mel Gibson, in “Point Break,” “Predator 2” and “Lost
Highway.”
