Requested since the initial launch of Apple’s ultimate phone
the 3G iPhone is apparently closing in. Steve Jobs confirmed the 3G iPhone last
year, when he announced the European launch of iPhone.
“Our phone has eight hours of talk time life. That's really
important when you start to use the internet and want to use the phone to
listen to music. We've got to see the battery lives for 3G get back up into the
five-plus hour range. Hopefully we'll see that late next year", Jobs said
in September 2007. One month later, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson confirmed
the 3G iPhone also. Now iPod Observer
claims that Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney said Apple have ordered a second round
of 10 million iPhones based on the 3G network.
In addition, based on the information provided by his Asian
sources, Dulaney speculated that that the so-called 3G iPhone will use an
Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display.
It seems like Apple’s decision to push the release of the 3G
version could be related to the poor sales of the device in Europe.
A 3G iPhone was requested especially by the European mobile
carriers. In Europe, business users and
consumers in 18 of the EU 25 countries are benefiting from commercial 3G
services, and network deployments are underway in another 4 countries.
Generally speaking, 3G networks are ubiquitous in Europe, whereas the US has focused
its attention on the Wi-Fi networks. Also, Apple is hoping to launch its cell
phone in Asia.
