Global IP Solutions announced the availability of a voice
over IP (VoIP) service for Apple’s iPhone, which will enable application
developers to create quality, real-time VoIP applications for iPhone users. The
decision to turn to the iPhone was driven by the growing popularity of the
iPhone, as well as the mergence of multiple applications and faster
connectivity of Apple’s product.
As Emerick Woods, GIPS Chief Executive Officer, explained in
a statement, the iPhone has turned into “an ideal platform for developing
applications that incorporate quality real-time VoIP, giving consumers
real-world communication experiences like in-game, multi-person chat.”
The GIPS VoiceEngine Mobile provides capabilities that turn
IP packets so they can be transmitted via Wi-Fi, Woods revealed. This way, it
will be easier for application developers to bring VoIP integrated applications
to the market.
GIPS VoiceEngines are among the most downloaded voice
engines worldwide, as they are considered to be reliable high-quality IP-based
communications.
“GIPS technology is second-to-none, and we’re excited to
introduce our award-winning VoiceEngine to the popular iPhone application
development community,” Woods said.
The company is responsible for pioneering VoIP technology
for multiple leading Internet service providers, application developers and
hardware manufacturers across the world. They have also invented the Internet
Engineering Task Force iLBC codec standard, which is currently part of the
iPhone.
The move comes as no surprise if we take into consideration
Apple’s reports on the iPhone 3G demand. According to these reports, Apple sold
one million iPhones 3G in the first weekend after its launch. Furthermore, Jobs
revealed gains of $30 million in 30 days since the App Store was launched.
