G1: Yet Another iPhone Killer?

The phrase “iPhone killer” should make the people at Apple very happy; though it is about something that will oversell or over-perform the trendy iPhone: the “iPhone killer” concept has become pretty popular, if not just as popular, as the iPhone itself.
The G1 is the next phone who steps in as a potential killer of Apple’s phone and from what recent numbers show, the HTC product might just have a chance. Pre-orders of the G1 phone have reached 1, 5 million, which means that the new phone, which will run on Android, a mobile operating system designed by Google, has already sold 1, 5 million devices before being officially launched.

The G1 will feature a touch screen and slide that reveals a very functional QWERTY keyboard. Technically speaking, the G1’s shiniest feature is its operating system, Android. This system was created with the intention of being able to control the mobile phone very similar to how you work with a computer.

Through Android, the G1 will be able to go online and have access to all Google services, Mail, Google Maps, YouTube. The internet connection will be assured, of course, by 3G or Wi-Fi making the G1 a fierce adversary not only for Apple’s iPhone, but also to other cell phone manufacturers.

The U.S is currently the place with the most pre-orders but there are signs that the UK will experience the same in the immediate future. T-Mobile has allowed people in the UK to register their interest for the upcoming HTC G1 and, until now, 25,000 people have done so.

Overall, maybe the G1 will out-perform the iPhone in everything, as some people apprently believe. Maybe the G1 is the real “iPhone killer”. Even so, the people from Apple should be proud that through their mobile phone they managed to create two distinct trends: the iPhone frenzy and the “iPhone killer” competition.
