Almost three months after revealing Fusion 2.0 Beta 1,
VMware announced the availability of Beta 2, which adds the Unity 2.0 suite of
Mac-Windows integration features, new ways to protect and manage the virtual
machines with multiple snapshots, and a garage fool of tools for technical
professionals.
The beta 2 is available as free download for Beta 1
customers, and comes with a lot of new features and improvements that offer
virtualization solutions for users who want to run the Windows operating system
on their Macs.
The VMware team promises “the next level of Mac-Windows
integration” compared to Beta 1, which enables users to share applications
between Windows and Mac, set web, email and other links to launch the Mac or
Windows browser, and even e-mail clients.
The Fusion team says about Fusion 2.0 that “it provides ever
better ways to manage and control Windows on Mac,” while the Beta 2 now allows
users to take and manage multiple snapshots for each of the virtual machines,
while keeping checkpoints before installing new software to prevent potential
issues.
Beta 2 also comes with more usability and Mac-friendly
features, such as CPU utilization reductions, Mac OS X Leopard Quick Look
integration, Apple Help integration, and better activity monitors in the status
bar.
The VMware Fusion dock icon shows what is happening with the
virtual machine, disk, network and other activities. VMware Fusion 2.0 provides not only
accelerated 3D graphics, but also high performance 2D video into the virtual
world.
With the addition of Mac OS X Leopard Server, Fusion 2.o now
promises support for all major server OSs, whether 32 or 64-bit, while the Beta
2 adds up to four virtual CPUs to the virtual machines and control virtual
machine from the Command Line using VMrun.
