Convicted “Spam King” Eddie Davidson was found dead in the
town of Bennett, Colorado, four days after escaping from a federal minimum-security
work camp. The police also found the body of his wife lying near their Toyota
Sequoia SUV parked in the driveway, and the body of their 3-year-old daughter
inside the vehicle.
It appears that the spammer shot his family, then shot
himself. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was a fourth victim, a teenage
girl who was shot in the neck, but managed to escape by running away from the scene.
She is now being treated at The Children’s Hospital, in Aurora, the Denver Post
reported. Another child, a 7-month-old boy, was found safe and sound inside the
vehicle.
According to the authorities, just hours after the “Spam
King” managed to escape from the federal prison, they received a call from his
wife, who accused her husband of forcing her to drive away from Florence, where
he had been detained.
Davidson started his 21-month sentence this May, after being
found guilty of spamming operations that reportedly earned him an estimated $3
million between 2003 and 2006. In addition to being convicted for tax evasion
and falsifying email headers, Davidson was also ordered to pay a $714,139 fine
and had his property seized by authorities.
As part of his business and primary activity between 2003
and 2006, Davidson made header information in messages appear legit and sent
them to hundreds of thousands of recipients. He only served 5 weeks in prison
before escaping and committing the terrible crimes.
“What a nightmare, and such a coward,” said U.S. Attorney
Troy Eid in an emailed statement. “Davidson imposed the ‘death penalty’ on
family members for his own crime.”
