The relaunch of the movie “Friday the 13th,” by producer Michael Bay and director Marcus Nispel, who have collaborated before on „The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” which was released back in 2003 as a remake of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 original movie, accounts for quite a boring story.
Written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who also wrote the screenplay for the 2003 production „Freddy vs. Jason,” the movie stars Jared Padalecki, whom we all know from the television series „Supernatural,” as Clay, a young man looking for his missing sister in dark, scary woods.
While he is searching for his sister Whitney Miller, portrayed by Amanda Righetti, Clay gets acquainted with the locals and some college kids who have chosen the woods as their party location.
Not surprising at all, the greeting committee, comprising only one person with a sharpened machete, starts picking his victims and goes on a killing spree that is neither thrilling nor creepy, only incredibly dull.
The predator, Jason Voorhees, played by Derek Mears, does nothing much besides killing people, being a great exponent of a flat and worn-out character.
Jason Voorhees first appeared in the 1980 „Friday the 13th” as the son of camp cook-turned-murderer Mrs. Voorhees, in which production the character was portrayed by Ari Lehman.
Created by Victor Miller, Ron Kurz, Sean S. Cunningham and Tom Savini, Jason Voorhees went on to be featured in a string of novels, comic books and a cross-over film where he went head-to-head with horror legend Freddy Krueger.
