Free Movie Frenzy On Disney’s Website

Disney World has truly become a wonderland since it started showing full-length movies online for free, as the studio announced on Tuesday.

The pictures, including “Finding Nemo,” “The Princess Diaries2,” “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” “Peter Pan,” “Monsters Inc.” and “Freaky Friday” will be available on Disney’s website for one week each, following their broadcast on ABC on “Wonderful World Of Disney” this summer.

According to Reuters, a Disney spokesman said the decision to stream free movies marked an “evolution” in the company’s online strategy. Other major studios, such as Fox, Universal, Lionsgate and MGM have all made this important move, placing their hit movies on Hulu, the NBC Universal/News Corp.-owned site. It seems Disney’s new goal is to keep children and parents logged on Disney’s virtual world for as long as possible, through short and long videos offered for free.

Disney Channel has so far streamed episodes of its series online for free, but has kept its films on iTunes.

Although the pics are free, viewers shouldn’t expect a cinema or TV experience. The movies, available through a “watch now” link on Disney’s website, are preceded by a series of advertisements. The window showing the movie is also surrounded by other ads promoting Disney products.

Disney.com will also stream the Disney Channel original movie “Camp Rock” on June 23 at www.Disney.com/CampRock for 24 hours, following the movie’s TV premiere on June 20 and the airings June 21 on ABC and June 22 on ABC Family.
