Actor Kelsey Grammer, best known for playing Dr. Frasier Crane on "Cheers" and its spinoff, "Frasier," was rushed to a Hawaiian hospital on Saturday after suffering a heart attack, his spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, confirmed Monday for People magazine.
The 53-year-old actor, who was on vacation in Hawaii with his family, was paddle boarding with his wife in the ocean of Kona when he suffered a mild heart attack. He was taken to the local Kona Community Hospital before being flown by chopper to a Honolulu hospital for treatment.
Grammer is currently "resting comfortably" and is expected to be released early this week, the statement added.
"Grammer experienced symptoms Saturday morning after paddle boarding with his wife Camille at their Hawaiian home," the statement said. "Grammer was immediately taken to an area hospital where it was determined that he had a mild heart attack."
Rosenfield declined to give further details regarding Grammer's condition or his medical treatment other than to say the actor had otherwise been in good health and he was unaware of his medical history.
Most recently, the actor's latest sitcom, Fox' "Back to You," co-starring Patricia Heaton, was dropped three weeks ago after airing for just one season.
"They have let it go," Grammer told The Associated Press at that time. "We were told all this time we were in good shape and we were coming back."
In the meantime, Grammer bounced back picking a new role on an ABC comedy called "Roman's Empire."
