“Until prison do us part” fits perfectly with the French
couple who was sentenced to life in prison because they were found guilty of
killing seven women and girls aged between 12 and 22.
According to Reuters, Michel Fourniret, 66, and his wife
Monique Olivier, 59, have to spend at least 30 years in prison before they can
ask for a sentence reduction. Given their age, it is not very likely they will
be free again.
It’s not like they don’t deserve it.
Apparently Fourniret had a thing for virgins. The couple
would drug the girls and tie them up. Then, the “Ogre of the Ardennes,” like the media called him,
would rape them.
It all started in 1987 in the Ardennes region of northern France and continued in Belgium also and it stopped in 2003 when
a 13-year-old-girl managed to escape and announce the police who arrested the
man.
When his wife was accused, she tried to defend herself by
saying that her husband made her do those things but she wasn’t very
credible.
She was accused of helping her husband select the victims
and get rid of the bodies.
After they found out the verdict, some of the parents of the
victims started crying and said that they felt relieved.
“We will start a new life. It is a relief but there can
never be an end,” said Jean-Pierre Saison, a father of one of the victims,
according to Reuters.
Apparently the killer-couple met after Fourniret placed an
advertisement in which he was looking to correspond with someone while he was
serving a prison sentence for sex crimes in the 1980s.
